In his commemorative address, Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, "This is a time to remember the dedication and sacrifice of the patriotic martyrs and war heroes who made the Republic of Korea what it is today and to renew our patriotism," adding, "We will make Daejeon a genuine city of national defense and veterans affairs."
He continued, "We will establish the National Defense and Veterans Park within the Daejeon National Cemetery to build Korea’s representative veterans infrastructure, and we will further increase the honorary allowance for war veterans next year, following last year’s raise, to strengthen the respect for veterans and solidify our position as a sacred place for veterans affairs."
Prior to the ceremony, Mayor Lee visited the Veterans Park in Sajung-dong, Jung-gu, along with senior Daejeon city officials and heads of public corporations and organizations, where he offered flowers and incense at the memorial tablet repository.
