Sangmo Park, Chairman of Boryeong City Council, "Conducted Legislative Activities for Citizens' Happiness Over 2 Years"

"Mayor Kim Dong-il Requests Resolution Amid Controversy Over Korira Wheel Relocation in Daejeon"

Sangmo Park, Chairman of Boryeong City Council, "Conducted Legislative Activities for Citizens' Happiness Over 2 Years" Boryeong City Council Chairman Park Sang-mo is giving a greeting at a press conference with journalists.

Park Sang-mo, chairman of the Boryeong City Council in Chungnam, stated, “During the first half of the 9th term, we focused solely on the citizens and carried out field-centered legislative activities.”

At a press conference held at the city council on the 5th, Chairman Park said, “Over the past two years, we have spent busy days without rest and did our best for the happiness of the citizens.”

He continued, “I believe that the passionate efforts to keep the promises made to the citizens have resulted in improvements in their lives,” reflecting on his tenure.

He also said, “We ask for much interest and support for the second half of the 9th term council, which will be newly launched in July.”

Regarding the controversy over the relocation announcement of Korea Wheel to Daejeon, Chairman Park said, “As the third largest company in Boryeong, we visited the site and suggested resolving the issue through dialogue,” adding, “Since the situation between the stakeholders remained unresolved, Mayor Kim Dong-il was asked to intervene.”

Earlier, Korea Wheel decided on the 24th of last month to relocate its headquarters and factory to the Pyeongchon Industrial Complex in Daejeon due to Boryeong City’s complacent administrative handling related to the construction of a smart farm facility, signing an investment agreement worth approximately 117 billion KRW with Daejeon City.

This is expected to cause significant setbacks in population decline and tax revenue collection for Boryeong City.

As a result, there is growing public opinion in the local community that the city council should actively mediate the emotional conflict between Boryeong City and Korea Wheel.

Regarding Boryeong City’s organizational restructuring plan, Lee Jeong-geun, chairman of the Autonomous Administration Committee, said, “It is worth considering whether it is appropriate for Boryeong City to take the lead in introducing a three-department system when other local governments of similar population size still maintain this structure sufficiently.”

He added, “Considering the efficiency of work in each department related to the addition of two divisions, it is questionable whether this is truly efficient, and the restructuring plan could cause confusion among the departments under the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Administration Committee and the Economic Development Committee.”

He further stated, “Although there was a majority opinion requesting the proposal of changes to resolve the issue of standing committee allocation, the organizational restructuring plan submitted in May was almost unchanged. Personally, I am considering not putting it on the agenda.”

Meanwhile, the 259th Boryeong City Council’s 1st regular session will open on the 10th and run for 19 days until the 28th. During this session, administrative audits, approval of the 2023 fiscal year revenue and expenditure settlement, approval of the 2023 fiscal year contingency fund expenditure, and ordinance proposals will be processed.
