"'Miryang Perpetrator' Is Indeed the Nephew"... The Gukbap Restaurant Where He Worked Is Finally Demolished

The building of a gukbap restaurant in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk, known as the workplace of the perpetrator in the Milyang middle school girl sexual assault case, which reignited the controversy, has finally been demolished. Below the signboard of the demolished gukbap restaurant, an apology letter from the owner was posted, stating, "We sincerely apologize for causing social unrest due to the employment of (the perpetrator)."

On the 5th, Maeil Newspaper reported through video footage the demolition of the establishment. Numerous internet communities also posted photos showing the building where the restaurant was located had disappeared, leaving only the restaurant signboard, with comments such as "I saw the gukbap restaurant building being demolished."


The restaurant is operated by a relative of Mr. A, who is known as the main perpetrator of the Milyang middle school girl sexual assault case. Controversy erupted after it was revealed that Mr. A worked there. Subsequently, netizens conducted review bombing on the restaurant’s food reviews on map applications and raised suspicions about illegal construction.


In response, the local government authority, Cheongdo County, confirmed that the restaurant was indeed an unauthorized building. Cheongdo County stated, "It has been confirmed that the restaurant is an unauthorized building," and added, "We plan to issue a correction order after investigation by the town office."


As the controversy spread, the restaurant announced it would temporarily close starting on the 3rd. At that time, a notice was posted on the restaurant’s entrance door stating, "We will be temporarily closed from the 3rd for store expansion and relocation," and "We apologize to customers who traveled a long way. We will greet you again with an improved appearance."


After the demolition was completed, a new apology letter was posted at the gukbap restaurant site. The owner wrote, "We are truly sorry. The employee in question, Park, is indeed our nephew," and "We sincerely apologize and feel deeply regretful for causing social unrest by employing him." The owner continued, "We also apologize for operating in an unauthorized building and will comply with legal measures," and concluded, "We express our sincere apologies once again."


Previously, a YouTuber exposed that the main perpetrator of the ‘Milyang middle school girl group sexual assault’ case was running a restaurant in Cheongdo County with relatives, bringing the past incident back into the spotlight. Notably, the restaurant gained attention as it was introduced as a popular eatery by Baek Jong-won, CEO of The Born Korea, during his visit in 2022.
