The KOSPI surged over 1%, nearing the 2700 mark, driven by nearly 600 billion KRW in net purchases by foreign investors.
On the 5th, the KOSPI closed at 2689.50, up 27.40 points (1.03%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals and institutions net sold 330 billion KRW and 259.3 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners net bought 590.5 billion KRW.
By sector, electric gas, electrical and electronics, and medical precision rose more than 2%. Additionally, textiles and apparel, manufacturing, machinery, and steel and metals increased by more than 1%. Conversely, paper and wood fell 1.40%, and insurance, services, and transportation and warehousing also declined slightly.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 77,400 KRW, up 2,100 KRW (2.79%) from the previous trading day. LG Energy Solution rose 4.46%, while Samsung SDI and LG Chem increased by more than 3%. Hyundai Motor, Celltrion, and POSCO Holdings also jumped over 1%. On the other hand, KB Financial Group and Samsung C&T Corporation declined slightly.
On this day, the KOSPI saw 421 stocks rise, including two stocks hitting the upper price limit: Nextil and Dongyang Steel Pipe. Meanwhile, 444 stocks fell without any hitting the lower price limit. There were 68 stocks that remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 850.75, up 4.91 points (0.58%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions net bought 52 billion KRW and 37.2 billion KRW respectively, while individuals net sold 90.1 billion KRW.
By sector, non-metallic minerals rose 5.29%, and general electrical and electronics jumped 3.17%. Paper and wood also increased by more than 2%. Conversely, textiles and apparel fell 4.24%, and information devices, computer services, telecommunications equipment, and internet sectors declined by more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 203,000 KRW, up 11,800 KRW (6.17%) from the previous trading day. EcoPro and HLB rose 4.36% and 3.11% respectively, while Alteogen increased 1.93%. On the other hand, Silicon Two fell 2.01%, and HPSP, Classys, and Samchundang Pharmaceutical declined by more than 1%.
On this day, the KOSDAQ saw 628 stocks rise, including two stocks hitting the upper price limit: Kespion and Korea Cement. Meanwhile, 903 stocks fell without any hitting the lower price limit, and 117 stocks remained unchanged.
