The long-awaited Myeonmok Line urban railway in northeastern Seoul has passed the preliminary feasibility study.

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) announced on the afternoon of the 5th that the Myeonmok Line urban railway construction project was finally approved (passed) at the 4th Preliminary Feasibility Study Review Committee of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2024, and that the long-standing local wish for the Myeonmok Line urban railway construction is expected to become a reality in earnest.

Furthermore, Im Gyu-ho, Seoul City Council member (Jungnang 2, Democratic Party), also welcomed the announcement of the final approval of the preliminary feasibility study for the Myeonmok Line urban railway project held that afternoon at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Korea Development Institute (KDI PIMAC).

Councilor Im said, "The passionate desire and efforts of local residents and stakeholders have finally borne fruit," adding, "The Myeonmok Line urban railway is an important project promoted to solve the transportation deprivation problem in northeastern Seoul and to achieve balanced regional development. It will contribute to the future development of northeastern Seoul by not only establishing a simple transportation network connecting surrounding areas including Myeonmok-dong, Mangu-dong, Sinnnae-dong, Jangan-dong, and Jeonnong-dong, but also by revitalizing the local economy and improving residents' quality of life."

Councilor Im, along with National Assembly member Seo Young-kyo (Jungnang Gap, Democratic Party), has continuously emphasized the necessity of the Myeonmok Line urban railway, proving its feasibility through numerous studies and analyses. They have also taken the lead in exploring project directions and establishing cooperative systems reflecting the wishes of local residents.

This means that the efforts of residents and stakeholders have borne fruit, and we will be able to accelerate the project going forward."

He continued, "Once the Myeonmok Line urban railway is completed, transportation conditions in northeastern Seoul, including Myeonmok-dong, will be dramatically improved, making Seoul's overall transportation network denser and increasing residents' convenience of movement. It is also expected to contribute to local economic revitalization and job creation, with commercial, cultural, and educational facilities being attracted around the station areas, bringing new business opportunities and jobs to local residents."

He added, "We will continue to work closely with related ministries and agencies for the swift promotion of the Myeonmok Line urban railway project and will do our best to ensure smooth progress by actively collecting residents' opinions."
