Expected to Become a Cultural and Artistic Landmark in the South Coast Region

Jangdo Park in Ungcheon, Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, has been reborn as an "island healed by art."

Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 5th that it recently completed the creation of the "Forest of Art" project on a 92,865㎡ site within Ungcheon Jangdo Park.

The "Forest of Art" was developed over three years starting in 2021, with a total investment of 4.9 billion KRW, including 2.2 billion KRW in national and provincial funds. It features themed gardens such as the Dadohae Garden, subtropical forest restoration, and the Harp Garden, as well as coastal decks, walking trails, rest areas, and an outdoor stage.

Previously, to promote this project, Yeosu City signed a business agreement in 2020 with Jeollanam-do Province and GS Caltex, and established the park plan through consultations with experts in landscaping, cultural arts, and the environment.

As a result, visitors to the "Forest of Art" are expected to have a special experience of rest and healing in nature where pristine forests and art harmonize.

In particular, the artificial rock outdoor stage, completed last month at the entrance of Jangdo Park, is expected to be used as a venue for various performances, offering unique cultural and artistic shows blended with nature to local residents and tourists.

To commemorate the completion, Yeosu City plans to hold an Environment Day event on the 5th and a Youth Busking performance, previously held at the existing Beach Culture Park, on the artificial rock outdoor stage on the 8th.

Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, "Through the creation of the beautiful Forest of Art that makes good use of Jangdo’s geographical characteristics, we expect not only to strengthen the competitiveness of Jangdo as a representative MICE facility in Korea but also for Jangdo to become a cultural and artistic landmark of the South Coast region."
