Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, achieved the remarkable feat of ranking first nationwide in the 'Health and Medical' category of the Sustainable Cities Evaluation in Korea conducted by the Korea Regional Management Corporation.
Dong-gu was named first in the 'Health and Medical' field and was recognized for enhancing its status as the 'Chair City of the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership (KHCP)'.
This evaluation, conducted for the first time this year, was determined through the analysis of 30 indicator data across five areas?▲population ▲economy and employment ▲education ▲health and medical ▲safety?targeting 228 administrative districts nationwide to strengthen regional competitiveness.
The evaluation items in the 'Health and Medical' category, in which Dong-gu ranked first, consisted of five indicators: ▲quality of life ▲health behavior practice rate ▲suicide rate ▲number of hospital beds per 1,000 population ▲unmet medical needs rate.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "Creating a sustainable healthy city is the greatest challenge we face," adding, "As the chair of the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership, I will do my best to secure the health rights of the city and its citizens based on communication and cooperation among the 103 member cities and collaboration with related organizations."
Meanwhile, the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership (KHCP) is a healthy city cooperation network that shares public policies and information among local governments to improve citizens' quality of life and achieve the highest level of health promotion and health equity.
