Focused Promotion of Key Tasks in the 8th Elected Administration, Including 3 Major Priority Projects

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-kwan) has declared its commitment to completing the vision of a “Vibrant Haenam” with even greater leaps forward on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the 8th local government administration.

According to the county on the 5th, from the 3rd to the 11th, work report meetings are being held for each of the 25 departments, covering major county administration tasks for the first half of 2024 as well as plans for the second half.

This year marks the third year, passing the halfway point of the 8th local government term. The county has decided to devote all efforts to steadily advancing key tasks to realize the administrative goals of the 8th term’s “Strong Leap, Vibrant Haenam” in the latter half as well.

The report meetings present plans for major tasks that Haenam-gun will focus on in the second half of the year and engage in in-depth discussions on ways to improve administrative services efficiently and to the satisfaction of residents.

In particular, the focus is on turning the achievements of the past two years into tangible benefits that residents can feel, and on preparing concrete execution plans for long-term growth projects that will become new driving forces for Haenam-gun.

Governor Myung Hyun-kwan stated, “The 8th local government of Haenam-gun must consolidate the greatest achievements carried over from the 7th term and create a decisive period of great leap forward. As we enter the second half of the 8th term, we must carefully review the work done so far and ensure that major projects take root in the region and yield results perfectly.”

Haenam-gun plans to focus the latter half of the 8th term on securing long-term growth engines that will determine Haenam’s future for the next 20 to 30 years. This includes accelerating the steady progress of key projects such as designation of a special development zone, creation of a marine tourism and leisure hub, inclusion of the Haenam route in the national high-speed rail plan, establishment of the National Agricultural and Food Climate Change Response Center and Agricultural Research Complex, construction of a carbon-neutral education center and green convergence cluster, development of a fisheries aquaculture equipment cluster, and establishment of a kimchi raw material supply complex.

Since the launch of the 8th local government, Haenam-gun has introduced Haenam-style ESG ethical management across all areas of administration and has demonstrated its reputation as a trustworthy and efficient government by achieving the highest (SA) rating in the Manifesto Pledge Implementation Evaluation for six consecutive years.

Since entering the era of a 1 trillion won budget in 2019, Haenam-gun has maintained the largest budget among county-level governments nationwide for six consecutive years. It has also ranked first among city and county governments nationwide for two consecutive years in fiscal execution evaluation, securing 665.9 billion won in national and provincial subsidies and 309.2 billion won in competitive projects, continuing its record-breaking achievements.
