This Summer Expected to Be Hotter Than Average
Variety of Cooling Blankets, Body Pillows, and Pads Available
As this summer is expected to be hotter than usual, the bedding industry is rushing to release new cooling products to meet the demand for a "sweet sleep."
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts a 40-50% chance that monthly temperatures from June to August will be higher than average, along with increased rainfall.
According to the industry on the 5th, Wellcron's bedding brands Sesa and Sesa Living have launched a new product called the "Air Tunnel Ice Bedding," which offers 30% improved cooling performance compared to existing products. Wellcron developed a cooling fabric for ice bedding with an air tunnel that allows air to pass through, enhancing breathability. This manufacturing method was patented last year.
The ice bedding quickly absorbs, disperses, and releases body heat. The cooling fabric immediately draws heat away upon contact with the skin, lowering the skin surface temperature. Wellcron's Technology Research Institute measured the thermal conductivity and cooling effect of the ice bedding using a thermal imaging camera, finding that the perceived skin surface temperature dropped by 7.8 degrees Celsius immediately after the fabric touched human skin.
Ace Bed introduced the "Cooling Body Pillow" to help ensure comfortable sleep. It uses "FORPE," a cooling yarn containing 54% polyethylene with excellent thermal conductivity, which quickly lowers the skin surface temperature and maintains coolness for a long time. An Ace Bed representative explained, "As the weather rapidly warmed with daytime highs approaching 30 degrees Celsius since May, more customers have been seeking cooling bedding, so we strengthened our cooling sleep care lineup."
Simmons' "Mattress Cooling Pad" is a reversible product that combines the coolness of cooling materials with the softness of cotton. The front side uses a material containing 51% polyester and 49% polyethylene, while the back side is made of 100% 60-count cotton.
Shinsegae Casa launched the functional cooling bedding "Coolin" series in April, a month earlier than usual. Coolin uses "DURARON-Cool," a contact cooling material. DURARON-Cool has higher thermal conductivity than common fibers such as cotton and nylon, making it feel cold the moment it touches the skin, and it excels at moisture and sweat drying. According to Shinsegae Casa, last month's sales of Coolin were about five times higher than the sales of cooling products during the same period last year. A Shinsegae Casa representative said, "Last month’s weather was hotter than usual, and by releasing cooling products early in April, we were able to increase brand awareness."
