At the Asan Lee Science Building on Korea University campus in Seoul, steam was generated while cleaning experimental equipment, causing about 50 students and staff to evacuate.
The fire authorities responded at 5:58 PM on the 4th after receiving a report of "smoke during an experiment," and students and staff promptly evacuated with no casualties.
The steam was found to have been generated during the process of cleaning equipment with sodium hydroxide and alcohol after a graduate school experiment.
A Korea University official stated, "We understand that the steam was generated due to exothermic reaction heat, and people evacuated voluntarily," adding, "We are currently inspecting the building and confirming safety."
