First 'Mugshot' Since Enforcement of the Serious Crime Offender Disclosure Act
Recognized for the Brutality of the Crime and the Seriousness of the Harm
The personal information of a man in his 60s accused of stabbing and killing a mother and daughter with a weapon in an officetel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and fleeing the scene has been disclosed.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 4th at 3 p.m. that after holding a personal information disclosure review committee meeting, they decided to disclose the personal information of Park Hak-seon (65). This is the first case of police disclosing personal information (mugshot) since the enactment and enforcement of the Serious Crime Personal Information Disclosure Act.
The police stated the reason for the disclosure, saying, "The brutality of the crime and the seriousness of the damage were recognized, there is sufficient evidence of the crime, and it was judged that there is a public interest such as preventing public anxiety and similar crimes caused by the occurrence of the crime."
According to the police, Park is accused of wielding a weapon and causing the death of a woman in her 60s, A, whom he was dating, and her daughter at an officetel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, around 7 p.m. on the 30th of last month.
Immediately after Park's crime, A died at the scene, and A's daughter was transported to the hospital but ultimately passed away.
Park fled immediately after the crime and was arrested 13 hours later the next morning in an alley near Namtaeryeong Station in Seoul and was taken to the Suseo Police Station in Seoul.
Before the pretrial detention hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court on the 2nd, Park responded to reporters' questions asking, "Is it true that you committed the crime because of a breakup notice?" by saying, "The crime happened because I called my husband."
Meanwhile, on the 3rd, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul found the weapon used by Park in an apartment park about 2 km away from the crime scene and requested an analysis.
