At around 1:28 p.m. on the 4th, a private academy van crashed over a curb and wire fence and fell about 3 meters down into a retention basin on the road in front of an elementary school in Buk-myeon, Uichang-gu, Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do.
According to Changwon Seobu Police Station, the accident left the driver in his 70s and three first-grade elementary school students with minor injuries.
The driver stated, "As I was about to depart with the students on board, the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward for about 100 meters, then reversed, hit the fence, and entered the retention basin."
It was reported that the driver was neither under the influence of alcohol nor driving without a license at the time of the accident.
The police are investigating the exact cause of the accident based on nearby closed-circuit (CC)TV footage and the driver's statement.
