Gwangjin-gu Provides First Medical Expense Support for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Patients

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is introducing medical expense support for pediatric and adolescent diabetes patients for the first time and expanding exercise expense support.

This initiative is being promoted following Gwangjin-gu’s selection in Seoul City's ‘Support Project for Vulnerable Groups by Autonomous Districts’ contest with the project titled ‘Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes Companion Support, Exercising Together.’

Pediatric and adolescent diabetes patients require long-term health management, which places a financial burden on families due to ongoing treatment costs.

Accordingly, the district will provide medical expense support of 500,000 KRW for pediatric and adolescent diabetes patients for the first time. This can be used for medical benefits such as consultation fees, examination fees, medication costs, as well as care expenses like blood glucose monitoring sensors and continuous glucose monitors.

Additionally, exercise expenses for pediatric and adolescent diabetes patients and high-risk groups will be expanded. The existing exercise support of up to 400,000 KRW per person will be increased to a maximum of 1,200,000 KRW. Those wishing to use sports facilities managed by the Gwangjin-gu Facilities Management Corporation will also receive priority access benefits.

Through registration management of diabetes patients and high-risk groups, one-on-one education on diseases, nutrition, exercise, and complications will be provided to the subjects and their guardians, along with health kits to help establish healthy lifestyle habits at home.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We hope this support will provide practical help to pediatric and adolescent diabetes patients and high-risk students,” adding, “We will continue to walk alongside the vulnerable and do our best to carefully ensure that no residents are left behind.”

Meanwhile, the district operates various beneficial programs year-round for the prevention and management of hypertension and diabetes, including ▲ rental of blood pressure monitors and blood glucose meters ▲ hypertension and diabetes health classes.
