Chef Given Probation for Pouring Jjamppong Broth

The 2019 film "Extreme Job" features a scene where a Chinese-Korean police officer infiltrates a group of Chinese people playing Mahjong and is discovered understanding Chinese, leading to retaliation. Much like a scene from the movie, a 60-year-old chef who poured jjambbong broth on a Chinese employee who understood Korean, causing burns, was sentenced to probation.

Earlier, A was accused of pouring hot jjambbong broth from a pot onto female employee B (54 years old) at a Chinese restaurant kitchen located in Seogwipo City, Jeju Island, around noon on June 4 last year, causing injury. At the time, A thought that Chinese employee B did not properly understand Korean and used abusive language, but when B said, "I can understand Korean," A became angry and committed the act.

Judge Park stated, "The defendant caused injury to the victim with a dangerous object, which is a serious offense. The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim and has previously been fined twice for violent crimes," but also explained the sentencing by considering "the defendant's admission of wrongdoing and the payment of medical expenses to the victim."
