Damyang-gun Provides Smoking Prevention Education Tailored to Youth Perspectives Through Musical Performances

Damyang County (Governor Lee Byeong-no) announced on the 4th that it recently conducted smoking hazard prevention education for middle and high school students in the area in celebration of the 36th 'World No Tobacco Day.'

World No Tobacco Day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987 to raise awareness that tobacco is a serious global issue and to create a smoke-free society, observed annually on May 31. During this period, various educational and promotional activities are carried out to encourage smoking cessation.

As the age of smoking initiation gradually decreases, Damyang County conducted education for about 790 middle and high school students in the area to block smoking opportunities and promote a reduction in youth smoking rates.

This education moved away from traditional lecture-style teaching and added fun through a musical performance consisting of dance and songs tailored to the youth's perspective, while increasing engagement with participatory events such as quizzes, skits, and talent shows.

Kim Dong-jin, Director of the Health Center, said, "We expect this musical performance to encourage smoking cessation among youth and raise awareness of the dangers of smoking, helping to form proper values," and added, "We will continue to operate various educational programs that involve and engage the participants."
