Pohang City will host the '2024 Pohang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony' and the '28th Pohang Danoje Folk Festival' simultaneously at Pohang Sports Complex on the 8th to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the city's elevation to city status, creating an event for civic unity.
This event will be divided into two parts: Part 1, the Pohang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony, and Part 2, the 28th Pohang Danoje Folk Festival.
The first part, the Pohang Citizens' Day Commemoration Ceremony, will begin with the entrance of teams from each town and district, followed by the reading of the Citizens' Charter, the presentation of the Citizens' Award, and a congratulatory performance by honorary ambassador Ryu Yeonju. Under the slogan "A New Future for Pohang with Great Citizens," the event aims to inspire pride and affection for the city among Pohang citizens.
In particular, during the event, Mayor Lee Kangdeok will present the Pohang Citizens' Award on behalf of the citizens to Han Dongseon, director of Saemyeong Christian Hospital, and Kim Seonsik, deputy manager at Pohang Steelworks, in recognition of their contributions to the development of Pohang City and the creation of a bright and healthy civic society.
The second part, the 28th Pohang Danoje Folk Festival, will feature a tug-of-war wrestling competition, a Hanbok fashion contest, and a singing contest. In addition, there will be various hands-on programs such as making Dano fans, creating Changpo soap, and experiencing traditional games, providing citizens with a variety of activities to enjoy.
'Pohang Citizens' Day' has been commemorated on June 12 since 2004, in honor of the opening of Pohang Port on June 12, 1962.
