Prospective Nurses’ Noble Sense of Sacrifice and Service
The Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President: Kim Youngdo, Department Head: Kim Yoonji) recently announced that it held the "13th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony" at the university convention hall.
The ceremony, held on the 24th of last month, was attended by 500 people, including faculty members of the Department of Nursing, 166 pledge-taking students, Kim Youngdo, President of Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, Park Bonghee, Vice President of the Busan Metropolitan Nurses Association, officials from the Hospital Nurses Association, parents, and current students. The event included an opening address, candlelight ceremony, congratulatory remarks by President Kim Youngdo and Vice President Park Bonghee, and celebratory performances.
The Nightingale Pledge Ceremony is a ritual in which third-year nursing students, before beginning their clinical practice at hospitals, publicly vow to uphold the ethics and principles of nursing.
The 166 students who took the pledge that day recited the Nightingale Pledge, vowing to emulate the noble spirit of sacrifice of Nightingale, serve and dedicate themselves to the nation and society, and reaffirmed their commitment as future professional nurses.
After the pledge ceremony, a meeting was held with parents of nursing students to introduce the department, discuss student career paths and employment counseling, and gather various opinions on clinical practice education, providing an opportunity for communication and exchange.
Kim Yoonji, Head of the Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, "The Nightingale Pledge Ceremony is a valuable time for students to commit to their roles and responsibilities as nurses. I hope that you will always become mature and responsible healthcare professionals who grow together and encourage each other with confidence and effort."
The Department of Nursing at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology was established in 2009 with the vision of becoming a "top-level nursing department contributing to the promotion of future human health." It has achieved four consecutive five-year accreditations and was selected as an exemplary institution in the "2019 Nursing College Clinical Practice Education Support Project" organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
