Efforts to Improve Oral Health and Health Equity for Vulnerable Groups
Ulsan City will receive the Minister of Health and Welfare Award at the ceremony for the 79th Oral Health Day, which will be held at 2 p.m. on June 4 at the Myeong-dong Post Tower in Seoul.
Ulsan City was recognized for its efforts to improve the oral health of vulnerable groups and promote health equity, thereby contributing to the enhancement of national oral health.
Since 2017, the city has been making continuous efforts to improve the oral health of vulnerable populations and promote oral health equity, including the Oral Health Care Program for children and adolescents from low-income families and the establishment and operation of the Ulsan Regional Oral Health Center for the Disabled in 2021.
In addition, the city supports various initiatives such as oral health education across the life cycle to foster good oral health habits, promotional campaigns to raise awareness, and the operation of oral health centers and clinics at public health centers.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "This award is the result of joint efforts by district health centers, the Ulsan Regional Oral Health Center for the Disabled, and related organizations to improve citizens' oral health," adding, "Dental health is not only limited to oral diseases but is also related to systemic diseases. We will continue to make practical efforts to help all citizens take an interest in and manage their oral health."
Together with district health centers, Ulsan City will hold various events to celebrate the 79th Oral Health Day (June 9) during the commemorative week from June 4 to June 10.
Under the theme "Our Health Begins with Happy Teeth," the following activities will take place: an Oral Health Day commemorative campaign; a promotional experience center; outreach oral health education at daycare centers, schools, apartment complexes, workplaces, senior centers, and welfare centers; and online campaigns to promote oral health practices.
