Kukim: "Broadcasting 3 Laws Intended to Occupy Public Broadcasters... Worst of the Worst Laws"

Democratic Party's Reproposal... People Power Party Media Special Committee Criticizes

The People Power Party criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's re-submitted 'Broadcasting 3 Acts (Amendments to the Broadcasting Act, the Broadcasting Culture Promotion Act, and the Korea Educational Broadcasting System Act)' on the 3rd, calling it "a detrimental amendment aimed at permanently subordinating public broadcasting to a cartel of a specific faction colluding with the Democratic Party."

The People Power Party's Media Special Committee issued a statement on the same day, pointing out that "this is one of the worst laws born from the intention to forever manipulate public broadcasting beyond the people's choice and public sentiment."

The Media Special Committee stated, "The newly proposed Broadcasting Control 3 Acts excessively abuse legislative power and even include toxic provisions," adding, "The implementation date of the 3 Acts amendment is fixed as 'from the date of promulgation.' In other words, it means to seize public broadcasting through a 'quick and decisive' move."

Regarding the newly introduced penalty clause imposing imprisonment of up to one year or a fine of up to 30 million won for violating the broadcasting programming regulations, they said, "It not only violates the constitutional principle of proportionality but also excessively infringes on the authority and autonomy of public broadcasting management."

The Media Special Committee emphasized, "As the ruling party with the historic responsibility to restore public broadcasting as the people's broadcasting, we will do our utmost to block the Broadcasting Control 3 Acts."
