Gyeonggi-do Conducts Intensive Inspections on 360 Livestock Product Companies to Prevent Food Poisoning Summer Season Food Poisoning Test

Gyeonggi Province will conduct intensive inspections of 360 livestock product-related businesses vulnerable to heat from the 3rd to the 21st of this month to prevent food poisoning during the summer season.

The inspection targets include 50 livestock product processing plants, 110 packaging companies, and 200 sales companies, such as manufacturers supplying raw materials for military supplies or school meals, and livestock product manufacturing and sales businesses near tourist attractions.

The main inspection items are ▲ hygienic handling and manufacturing of livestock products ▲ compliance with storage temperatures and proper functioning of refrigeration and freezing equipment ▲ storage and sale of products past their consumption (distribution) expiration date ▲ implementation of microbial safety management such as self-quality inspections.

In addition to hygiene inspections, Gyeonggi Province will also collect and conduct safety tests on camping livestock products (sausages, easy-to-cook seasoned meat, etc.) that see a surge in demand during summer, livestock products with a history of inspection failures, as well as milk and egg products.

In particular, food poisoning bacteria tests will be conducted on raw consumption products such as ground meat or yukhoe (Korean-style raw beef) and on sterilized or pasteurized products.

For non-compliant products detected during the intensive inspections, Gyeonggi Province will investigate the causes, recall and dispose of them, and file complaints and take administrative actions against businesses violating the Livestock Products Hygiene Control Act and related laws.

Choi Kyung-mook, head of the Animal Quarantine and Hygiene Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Livestock products can easily deteriorate during the summer and are often a major cause of food safety incidents such as food poisoning. We will focus on manufacturers supplying livestock products to group meals, such as school meals and military supplies, to do our best in preventing food poisoning incidents in collective catering."
