Presenting a New Paradigm for 'Mirae Education', Valuable Achievements
The ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo’ attracted over 400,000 visitors, confirming its potential to become a world-class education expo.
Co-hosted by the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, the Ministry of Education, Jeonnam Province, and the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education, the ‘2024 Korea Glocal Future Education Expo’ showcased Jeonnam’s competitiveness in region-centered glocal education to both domestic and international audiences, concluding with a closing ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 2nd.
The closing ceremony was attended by about 900 people, including invited guests such as Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Jeonnam Education, and Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Gyeongbuk Education, as well as students, parents, and local residents, who joined together for a new start toward “Education of Coexistence, Sustainable Future.”

The expo featured diverse programs across five sections: ▲Future Education Conference ▲Glocal Future Classroom ▲Future Education Exhibition ▲Cultural and Artistic Exchange ▲Future Education Festival.
A total of 139 detailed programs and 1,591 exhibition and experience booths were held with participation from 22 countries worldwide, including the United States, Germany, Canada, Vietnam, India, and Australia. The cumulative number of visitors exceeded 400,000 (tentative). From the opening day on the 29th until the closing, the Yeosu World Expo site was packed with people eager to see and experience future education firsthand.
In particular, the Provincial Office of Education laid the groundwork for educational exchanges with countries such as Uzbekistan, China, Japan, and Vietnam, clearly presenting the direction for Korean education in this era of educational transformation.
Keynote lectures delivered over five days by five scholars?including Harvard University professor Michael Sandel, roboticist Dennis Hong, Paul Kim, Associate Dean of Stanford Graduate School of Education, Thomas Frey, Director of the Da Vinci Institute, and Tan Wun Seng, former President of the National Institute of Education Singapore?were highly praised for enriching the core of this expo discussing future education.
Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has established a foundation for educational exchange with countries around the world through the Glocal Future Education Expo.
The program that drew the most attention was the ‘Glocal Future Classroom,’ which had already received significant media focus before the opening. The ‘Glocal Future Classroom,’ offering a preview of 2030 future lessons, conducted 59 hours of classes over five days for about 1,100 students daily across six rooms, including kindergarten, elementary and secondary levels, and project classrooms.
Especially, future classroom lessons utilizing advanced technologies represented by AI, conducted without constraints of time, space, or language, amazed education officials from around the world who visited.
Overseas leaders actively promoting international exchange expressed support for the Glocal Education Joint Declaration of the ‘Korea Glocal Future Education Expo,’ and by uniting for education of coexistence and sustainable future education, expectations are rising for the activation and solidification of Jeonnam’s international exchanges.
Superintendent Kim Dae-jung said, “Through this expo, we have paved a new path where no one has gone before, and that path for the great transformation of Jeonnam education must now lead to classrooms. We are preparing so that every classroom in Jeonnam becomes a future classroom and intend to fully return the fruits of this effort to the students.”
