Send Water Directly Through Direct Pipe to Make Purified Water and Ice
LG Electronics announced on the 2nd that it recently launched a new direct water supply refrigerator brand called 'STEM'. The product is available for both purchase and subscription use. LG Electronics plans to actively popularize subscription services for large home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, and stylers.
The brand name carries the meaning of providing clean water and ice through a direct water pipe, just as plants deliver water and nutrients through their stems.
The STEM direct water supply refrigerator comes in two types: models with a water outlet and models without one. Unlike water tank refrigerators, there is no need to clean a water tank. It is more convenient and hygienic.
It features a 'UV Nano' function that automatically sterilizes the water outlet with UV LED for 10 minutes every hour. A three-stage safe water purification filter is also applied, removing bacteria such as E. coli and norovirus, which causes food poisoning.
Users can choose from four types of ice: craft ice, cubed ice, mini cubed ice, and crushed ice.
An artificial intelligence (AI) power-saving care function is also included. The AI learns and analyzes refrigerator usage patterns to maintain a consistent temperature. In the second half of the year, an AI 'energy-saving mode' will be added. This feature can be activated through the LG ThinQ app.
The product is also available through LG Electronics' subscription service. When subscribing, a manager regularly visits to clean the refrigerator, check performance, and replace consumables such as filters.
Subscribers receive free repair warranty throughout the subscription period. It is also possible to purchase the product outright and subscribe only to the care service.
LG Electronics plans to expand the STEM refrigerator models to account for more than half of its premium top-refrigerator bottom-freezer product lineup.
Hyunwook Lee, Vice President and Head of Kitchen Solutions at LG Electronics H&A (Home Appliance & Air Solution) Business Division, said, "With the STEM refrigerator, we will provide a differentiated customer experience and enable customers to use premium home appliances without burden through subscription services."
