Seoul City Operates Initial Response Team for North Korea's 'Waste Balloons'... 24-Hour Response

Capital Defense Command, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Seoul Fire & Disaster Headquarters Response

Seoul City announced on the 2nd that it has established and is operating the 'Seoul City Initial Response Team' to protect citizens from balloons carrying North Korean propaganda leaflets and filth.

Currently, the city is coordinating with the Capital Defense Command, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and Seoul Fire & Disaster Headquarters to operate a 24-hour situation room for real-time monitoring and response. According to the city, from 9 PM the previous day to 6 AM today, 36 reports of balloons carrying propaganda leaflets and filth were received throughout Seoul.

The city stated that after residents reported the incidents, the police dispatched officers to control access to the sites and coordinated with the military and others to complete the collection. Kim Myung-oh, Seoul City's Emergency Planning Officer, urged, "When discovering North Korean propaganda leaflets or contaminated balloons, please promptly report to the military, police, or relevant authorities and refrain from contact for safety."
