Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Small Everyday Actions Can Save the Earth"

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun is speaking at the '29th Environment Day Ceremony' held at Kyonggi University High-End Hall on May 31.

Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun emphasized that "small daily actions can save the Earth."

Mayor Lee attended the '29th Environment Day Commemoration Ceremony' held at Kyonggi University High-End Hall on May 31 and stated, "Suwon City has set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2050 and has continuously considered ‘climate action’ policies that citizens can participate in together. The core of the ‘Carbon Neutral Green City’ project, which involves an investment of 40 billion KRW, lies in citizen participation."

The ceremony proceeded in the order of ▲ Commendation for Environment Day Meritorious Persons ▲ Awards for the 2024 Suwon Environmental Art Contest and Carbon Neutral Idea Contest ▲ Pledge for Carbon Neutral Practice.

Mayor Lee and attendees concluded the ceremony by shouting slogans such as "Carbon Neutral! Let’s Breathe Life into Ecology!" and "Carbon Neutral! Starting with Me Right Now!"

After the ceremony, Suwon City held the ‘Earth-friendly Movie Talk Show,’ one of the events of the 3rd Suwon Environmental Education Week.

They screened the documentary film Coffee Boom Era and held a discussion on the theme of ‘Coffee and the Environment’ with the audience, featuring Son Sang-young, CEO of New Old Coffee; Lee In-shin, Secretary-General of Suwon Environmental Movement Federation; Byun Nam-soon, Team Leader of Suwon YWCA; and Park Ah-rin, a student at Kyonggi University.

Suwon City also set up environmental education booths in front of the Kyonggi University Welfare Center plaza and organized the ‘Suwon Endangered Species Photo Exhibition’ and the ‘2024 Environmental Art Contest Winners Exhibition.’

The 3rd Suwon Environmental Education Week will continue until June 5. The UN designated June 5, the opening day of the ‘United Nations Conference on the Human Environment’ held at the 27th General Assembly in 1972, as ‘World Environment Day.’
