A couple who scratched lottery tickets they purchased together ended up winning first prize of 1 billion won each, totaling 2 billion won, in a surprising story.
On the 29th, lottery operator Donghaeng Lottery revealed a review from Mr. A, the first prize winner of the 53rd round of 'Speedo 2000', on its official website.
Mr. A bought the first prize ticket at a lottery store in Yeongdeung-dong, Iksan-si, Jeonbuk. Mr. A, who usually bought lottery tickets once or twice a month with his wife, said, "I stopped by the lottery store where we usually buy tickets together and purchased 10 Speedo 2000 tickets, then brought them home." His wife, upon seeing the tickets, said, "I somehow feel like we will win."
The couple divided the 10 tickets evenly and checked them, only to be shocked. Of the total prize money of 2 billion won, one 1 billion won ticket was scratched by Mr. A and the other by his wife.
Speedo 2000 is an instant lottery where if both lucky pictures in the game match, the corresponding prize is awarded. The selling price is 2,000 won, and there are 6 first prize tickets per round.
The first prize for Speedo 2000 is 1 billion won, and when purchasing a set of two tickets, if one ticket wins, the other ticket in the set also wins, allowing the buyer to receive 2 billion won. For this reason, many people usually buy two tickets consecutively as a set.
Mr. A said, "When we realized we had won, my wife and I hugged and cheered," adding, "I think we were blessed because we have lived kindly. We often do volunteer work and many good deeds, so it feels like a great gift has come back to us, and I am very happy."
Regarding plans for the prize money, he said, "We plan to pay off loans and prepare for retirement. We also intend to share with our children," adding, "We will continue to live kindly by helping neighbors in need."
Meanwhile, an interview with the first prize winner of the 81st round of Speedo 1000 was also released on the 28th.
Mr. B, who purchased Speedo 1000 at a food material mart in Cheonan, Chungnam, said, "My girlfriend said it was fun to scratch, so she occasionally bought Speedo lottery tickets," and added, "Recently, she wanted to exchange a winning Speedo ticket, so I visited the lottery store."
He said, "I encouraged her to scratch half of the tickets she exchanged," and "Suddenly, I felt like buying lottery tickets, so I bought 8 tickets for the first time in my life."
Mr. A explained the situation at the time, saying, "While scratching Speedo tickets side by side at the store, the first ticket won 500 million won. At first, I was confused and wondered if it was correct. I scratched all the remaining tickets and asked the store owner to confirm the win," adding, "The owner congratulated me on winning first prize and was very happy."
Mr. A also revealed that his younger brother had won first prize in the Lotto. He said, "A few years ago, my younger brother also won first prize with his first Lotto ticket purchase, and I went with him to Nonghyup Bank to claim the prize," adding, "It's amazing that I also won first prize with my first lottery ticket purchase; I feel like I have used up all my luck in life."
When asked about how he would use the prize money, Mr. A briefly replied, "I will first deposit it and make plans later."
