Stabbing Scissors into Slide and Running Away
"First Time Meeting Accomplice"
A teenager who stuck a sharp pair of scissors into a children's playground slide and ran away was caught by the police.
The Hwaseong Dongtan Police Station in Gyeonggi announced on the 1st that they have formally charged A (16) with special property damage. A is accused of sticking kitchen scissors into a slide and damaging it together with his peer B between 3:00 and 3:30 a.m. the previous day. When they found that the slide would not puncture, they heated the scissors with a lighter before inserting them.
At around 7:40 p.m. the same day, a passerby who was walking through the park reported to 112 that “there are scissors stuck in the slide.” Although 16 hours had passed from the time of the crime to the witness report, fortunately, no children were injured.
After receiving the report, the police tracked down A through CCTV analysis and arrested him the next morning. During the police investigation, A admitted the charges, saying it was “done as a prank,” but regarding B, who committed the crime together, he stated, “We met on the day of the incident through SNS, so I only know his name and do not know where he lives or which school he attends.” The police identified B and found him. B is currently staying in a different region and is scheduled to appear for questioning on the 2nd.
Since they are not criminal minors (juveniles exempt from criminal liability), they can be criminally prosecuted. A police official said, “Because A and others stuck the scissors at the top of the slide where anyone could easily recognize the danger, it seems that no one was injured,” adding, “We will promptly ascertain the details of the incident.”
Broken Glass Found Inside Slide in Gumi as Well
A similar incident occurred in Gumi last month. Broken glass shards were found inside a playground slide. After a post about discovering broken glass inside a slide at a playground in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, spread on an online community, the police launched an investigation. The police are considering applying charges of attempted injury if intentionality is proven.
