Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop Gains Attention as Senior Member of the Industry Committee
"I Will Work Hard to Resolve Local Issues Such as Establishing the Gwangyang Steel Special Zone"
Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop (The Democratic Party of Korea, Jeonnam Suncheon·Gwangyang·Gokseong·Gurye-eul) made his first appearance at the National Assembly on the 30th to mark the opening of the 22nd National Assembly.
On this day, Assemblyman Kwon attended the Democratic Party of Korea members' general meeting held on the rotunda hall stairs of the National Assembly, where he reaffirmed his determination to serve alongside the 22nd National Assembly members.
Additionally, at the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee meeting room, the party adopted the ‘Special Prosecutor Act for Chae Sang-byeong’ and the ‘Special Act on Livelihood Recovery Support Fund’ as party policies.
Meanwhile, Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop attracted attention by being appointed as a member of the National Assembly’s Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Sanja Committee).
The Sanja Committee is a standing committee that handles industrial policies for large and small businesses, traditional markets, national energy policies, and the overall real economy, making it a popular committee among local constituency assembly members.
Assemblyman Kwon said, “Today, I began my first term as a member of the 22nd National Assembly, reflecting on the meaning of being chosen by the voters of Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong, and Gurye (eul).” He added, “‘Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop’ exists because of the local residents, and I will create the 22nd National Assembly that serves your will.”
Along with this, Assemblyman Kwon stated, “I was appointed as a member of the Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises Committee, which was my first choice,” and expressed his determination, saying, “With the wide opening of the gateway to regional development such as the establishment of the Gwangyang Steel Special Zone and the construction of the integrated logistics center in the eastern part of Jeonnam, I will carry out legislative activities to resolve local issues and restore livelihoods.”
Assemblyman Kwon Hyang-yeop is the first female local constituency assembly member elected in Jeonnam in 46 years, recording the third highest vote share nationwide (70.09%, 104,493 votes). Assemblyman Kwon currently serves as a member of the Democratic Party of Korea’s Special Committee for the Truth Investigation and Restoration of Honor regarding the Yeo-Sun Incident. She has also held positions such as Secretary for Balanced Personnel at the Presidential Secretariat, Chief Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Director of the Democratic Party of Korea Women’s Leadership Center, Director of the Democratic Party of Korea Women’s Bureau, and Director of the Democratic Party of Korea Digital Media Bureau.
