Gas Safety Corporation Hosts '2024 Global Gas Safety Policy Sharing Forum'

Officials from the Energy and Resources Sectors of Governments in 20 Countries Worldwide Attend

On the 31st, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation held the '2024 Global Gas Safety Policy Sharing Forum' at the main conference room of its headquarters in Chungbuk Innovation City, with about 70 attendees including government energy resource officials from 20 countries around the world.


The event was planned with the purpose of spreading a global safety culture through sharing gas safety policies and networking between countries, as well as promoting friendly relations and forming human networks. It was conducted in collaboration with Hanyang University GETPPP (Global Energy Technology and Policy Professional Program) and Seoul National University IEPP (International Energy Policy Program).

At the event, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation introduced ▲ Korea's gas safety management system and best practices ▲ Korea's hydrogen policy and hydrogen safety infrastructure ▲ the corporation's international cooperation activities on gas safety. Government officials from Kazakhstan, Colombia, and Indonesia represented the global participating countries and shared about ▲ Kazakhstan's gas industry ▲ Colombia's clean hydrogen ▲ Indonesia's hydrogen development ▲ Indonesia's carbon capture and storage projects and international cooperation.


Additionally, as a side event of the forum, participants toured hydrogen-related facilities operated by the corporation, including the Hydrogen Safety Museum (located in Chungbuk Innovation City) and the Hydrogen Product Testing and Evaluation Center (located in Seongbon Industrial Complex, Eumseong-gun, Chungbuk), exchanging views on the safety and future of hydrogen energy, a key means for carbon neutrality and energy security.


Park Kyung-guk, President of the Korea Gas Safety Corporation, said, "It was a meaningful time for energy experts from Korea and 20 global countries to gather in one place to share information and exchange opinions on gas safety," adding, "Through this event, I hope that global cooperation for gas safety will be strengthened so that citizens worldwide can use gas safely, and that gas safety and industrial exchanges between countries will become more active."


Meanwhile, the Hanyang University GETPPP and Seoul National University IEPP programs are regular master's and doctoral degree programs established to train energy policy experts and build global networks for government energy resource officials overseas. Since 2022, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation has been participating as a joint institution in Hanyang University's GETPPP.
