Lee Jun-seok: "President Yoon, Let's Vote Now Whether You Are Still a Proud Seoul National University Alumnus"

Continuing Criticism of President Yoon
"Let's Try It Once More for Fun" Proposal Also Made

Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform New Party, said, "At the Seoul National University lecture on the 27th, I mentioned that when the 2020 Seoul National University students voted for the most proud alumnus on a community site, the first place was then Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol with 89% of the votes," adding, "I told them to try it again." Lee said, "As far as I know, the most embarrassing alumnus at that time was Professor Cho Kuk," and suggested, "I don't know why such votes stopped being held, but how about voting again to see why the young generation's support for Yoon Seok-yeol has rapidly declined?"

On the 30th, Lee Jun-seok said on SBS Radio's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show' that the annual votes among Seoul National University students for the 'most proud' and 'most embarrassing' alumni disappeared after the emergence of President Yoon Seok-yeol, and expressed curiosity about what the results would be if held now. The vote Lee referred to was the '2020 Second Half Most Proud Alumnus Award' conducted by 'SNU Life,' an online site for Seoul National University alumni.

At that time, among 16 candidates, Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol received 1,149 votes (89.5%) out of a total of 1,283 votes, ranking first. Following him were Lee Hee-sook, a member of the People Power Party (426 votes, 33.2%), former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop (350 votes, 27.2%), former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon (291 votes, 22.6%), and Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party (249 votes, 19.4%). On the other hand, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party (15 votes, 1.1%), former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk (25 votes, 1.9%), and Shim Sang-jung, a member of the Justice Party (12 votes, 0.9%) remained around 1%.

In the '2021 First Half Most Embarrassing Alumnus Award' vote conducted by SNU Life in June 2021, former Minister Cho Kuk received 1,250 votes (92%) out of a total of 1,345 votes, ranking first and earning the dishonor for the third consecutive year following 2019 and 2020. When the host said, "It might change if the vote is held again before the next presidential election," Lee replied, "I don't know when the next presidential election will be, but I hope we try it at least for fun."

Earlier, in a radio interview on the 11th of last month, when asked about his candidacy with "Three years left until the next presidential election," Lee responded by questioning, "Are you sure there are three years left?" This is interpreted as a nuance suggesting that an early presidential election might be held amid the opposition party discussing the possibility of impeaching the president after President Yoon exercised his veto power (reconsideration request) on the 'Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Act.'

Lee continues to criticize President Yoon. At the Seoul National University lecture on the 27th, where he mentioned the alumni evaluations, Lee described President Yoon as "some stupid person" and criticized the increase in medical school quotas as endangering the Korean scientific community.
