"30 Years Achieved Through Sharing, Toward a Better World" UNICEF Korea Committee Launches 30th Anniversary Brand Campaign.
This campaign was planned to commemorate the special moments of the past 30 years, during which Korea transformed from a recipient to a donor country with UNICEF, and to share the value of sharing for a better world.
The campaign will begin on May 31 with the video "The Names of 500,000 Supporters," highlighting the supporters who have been the driving force behind the Korean Committee for UNICEF over the past 30 years. The campaign will continue with the video "The Country of Dramatic Reversal," which tells the story of Korea's remarkable transformation from a beneficiary to a donor country. In addition, interview videos featuring the sincere stories of three supporters who have contributed to UNICEF for 30 years will be released.
Jo Mijin, Secretary-General of the Korean Committee for UNICEF, said, "It was only possible for Korea to become both a major fundraising country and a country of reversal for UNICEF because of the unwavering love and support from our donors for children. I am deeply grateful." She added, "I would also like to thank the institutions, companies, and local governments that have worked to build a culture of sharing in our society over the past 30 years. The Korean Committee for UNICEF will continue to do its best for the next 30 years."
Korea, which had received UNICEF assistance since 1950, became the Korean Committee for UNICEF, a developed-country-type national committee, in 1994 thanks to its economic growth. Korea is the only country in UNICEF's history to have transitioned from a recipient to a donor nation. Since its establishment in 1994, it has led the spread of a donation culture in Korean society through UNICEF card sales, charity concerts, public campaigns for children's rights, children's drawing contests and school participation programs, and the formation of clubs for legal professionals, artists, and volunteers. Starting with 3.8 billion KRW in donations in its first year, the committee raised 100.7 billion KRW in 2013 and 157 billion KRW in 2023, establishing itself as a key country for UNICEF.
UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) is the only UN agency explicitly mandated by the Convention on the Rights of the Child to promote children's rights. It operates programs around the world in health, nutrition, water and sanitation, education, protection, and emergency relief. UNICEF uses more than 90% of its annual income for its core purpose of supporting children. The Korean Committee for UNICEF represents UNICEF in Korea, raising funds for children worldwide and working to promote children's rights domestically through initiatives such as the UNICEF Child-Friendly Society project.
