Ulleung County Holds Graduation Ceremony for the 3rd Dokdo Museum Academy

Museum University Bridging Theory and Practice

The Dokdo Museum in Ulleung County, North Gyeongsang Province, held the graduation ceremony for the 3rd Dokdo Museum College at Hanmaeum Hall on the 29th.


From April 29 to May 29, the program was composed of six theory classes and two field trips over a total of eight weeks, providing an educational program that encompassed both theory and practice.

This session was attended by 24 residents of Ulleungdo. The participants took a total of six humanities lectures under the theme of "The Cultural Transformation of Ulleung County," including "The Spiritual and Material Cultural Heritage of Ulleungdo," "The Life of Ulleungdo Residents as Seen Through Life Rituals," and "The Life and Culture of Simmani and Ulleungdo Wild Ginseng."


Through this, they had the opportunity to reflect on the changes and values of Ulleungdo's cultural heritage.


In particular, the third session featured a field trip program that distinguished itself from previous courses. Participants visited village shrines scattered throughout Ulleung County to examine the history and changes of village beliefs, and also visited Yangdong Village in Gyeongju, the Gyeongbuk Intangible Cultural Heritage Onggi Master, and the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju Branch to explore various cases of cultural heritage preservation and utilization.


County Governor Nam Hankwon said, "The Dokdo Museum will continue to strive to provide educational opportunities for local residents to learn about their regional culture."
