A Japanese individual who purchased more than 2,000 shares of Nvidia stock at $5 per share about 10 years ago and has not sold them until recently has become a hot topic.

On the 28th, a post titled "A Japanese person who made a 10-year long-term investment in Nvidia" along with a photo was uploaded to an online community. The photo is a screenshot of the stock holdings as of March 22. The Japanese individual, Mr. A, bought 2,156 shares of Nvidia stock when the price was $5.54 per share (about 7,600 KRW), spending $11,994.24 (about 16 million KRW). Nvidia stock was trading around $5.50 in February 2015, about 10 years ago.


On the day the stock holdings were captured, Nvidia stock closed at $942.89 (about 1.3 million KRW). Therefore, Mr. A's unrealized gain amounted to $202,926.6 (about 2.759 billion KRW). The return on investment was approximately 17,000%, with a total valuation of $2,032,870.84 (about 2.775 billion KRW).

On the 28th, Nvidia closed at $1,139.01 (about 1.57 million KRW). If Mr. A still holds the Nvidia shares, his total valuation would be $2,455,705.56 (about 3.353 billion KRW), meaning he earned another 600 million KRW in just two months.


Netizens who saw this reacted with comments such as "It's amazing that he didn't take profits," "A 10-year long-term investment, did he even go to prison or something," "A life turnaround," "This is impossible without having the heart of a beast," and "'Jonbe' (a slang term meaning 'holding on hard') is the proof that perseverance wins."
