Supply of 3 doses to 199 farms
Boryeong City in Chungnam announced on the 30th that it has provided free pesticides for joint control of sudden outbreak pests in fruit trees to prevent fire blight disease.
Fire blight is a disease in which trees show blackened scorch symptoms and eventually wither and die. Once it occurs, host plants such as apples and pears cannot be planted for 24 months.
Although it is designated as a national quarantine pest, there is currently no treatment pesticide, so the application of control pesticides is mandatory. If fire blight occurs without prior control measures, compensation for losses can be reduced by at least 25% to 100%.
Accordingly, the city provided 199 farms with practical training on the prevention of fire blight and supplied three doses of registered pesticides.
For sudden outbreak pests, it is best to control them during the nymph stage before they become adults, as nymphs have no resistance to pesticides, making control between May and June most effective.
Kim Gu-yeon, director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We urge fruit farmers to actively participate in pesticide application," and added, "Please strive for proactive control of fruit tree pests and diseases through timely pesticide application and clean orchard management."
