KakaoPage Tops Domestic Book App Sales for 2 Years... Also Confirms Global Growth Trend

Kakao Entertainment announced on the 30th that KakaoPage has ranked first in sales for two consecutive years in the domestic market book application sales rankings, based on the combined data from both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.


According to market intelligence platform Sensor Tower, KakaoPage was the top-grossing domestic book app for two years and the fastest-growing webtoon and web novel platform worldwide. Among platforms that simultaneously offer webtoons and web novels, Tapas recorded the highest sales in the North American market.


In the domestic market book app sales rankings compiled by Sensor Tower from May 11, 2022, to June 10 of this year, KakaoPage topped the combined rankings of the two major app markets.


Expanding the scope to the global market, a growth trend in sales was also confirmed. During the same period, KakaoPage recorded the second-highest sales growth worldwide in the book category, following the audiobook app Audible.


The growth of Tapas, Kakao Entertainment’s North American platform, was also remarkable. As a comprehensive webtoon and web novel platform, Tapas recorded the highest sales in the North American market and ranked 9th in sales and 12th in sales growth among book apps in the North American market over two years.


KakaoPage analyzed that this growth trend is the result of the organic synergy between premium IPs discovered domestically and platform strategies. Additionally, cases such as the webtoon "Kkeuti Anin Sijak" (The Beginning, Not the End), which was discovered in North America and is also being serviced on KakaoPage, demonstrate the positive impact of diverse platform operation strategies.


KakaoPage also analyzed that advertising strategies contributed to the growth. According to statistics, Tapas ranked 3rd in the number of ad impressions within the publishing category on the TikTok channel in the U.S. market from May 11, 2022, to June 10 of this year. These ads mainly consist of 16 to 30-second videos produced from Tapas’ popular webtoons.
