Hapcheon County Holds Results Briefing for the Picturesque Mountain Village Living Experience Project

Hapcheon County, Gyeongnam announced on the 29th that it held a results briefing session for the “Beautiful Mountain Village Experience Pilot Project,” a part of the Sanjieum Project in connection with Nam-gu, Daegu, at the county office’s small conference room. The event was attended by County Governor Kim Yooncheol, Deputy Governor Lee Seongi, department and division heads, and about 20 others.

As part of the Sanjieum Project aimed at attracting new residents such as the “5 Days in the City, 2 Days in the Countryside” initiative, the Beautiful Mountain Village Experience Project allowed participants to stay in Hapcheon for two nights and three days each week, divided into four sessions over a month. The project was operated by the local fair travel agency, Hapcheon Daenggim.

Fifty-six Daegu citizens interested in returning to farming or rural life were recruited to stay in Hapcheon, where they experienced various fields including forestry, agriculture, tourism, and healing.

Additionally, through forums with experienced returnees, participants were able to candidly discuss their concerns about relocating to rural areas and receive responses from those who had already made the move.

In particular, participants in the Beautiful Mountain Village Experience Project responded in surveys, “I have visited Hapcheon often, but this is the first time I have come to truly like it. I am now seriously considering moving to Hapcheon.” After visiting local gardens and local food producers, they commented, “I have gained trust in Hapcheon’s agricultural products.”

Through this, the county plans to continuously expand the virtuous cycle in which the expansion of “relationship population” (people who do not fully settle in the area but maintain ongoing connections through regular or irregular visits) leads to increased local food sales and income for local farmers.

Governor Kim stated, “The stress of working life in the complex and busy environment of a big city can be relieved through Hapcheon’s beautiful natural scenery, clear water, clean air, and warm people?all within an hour of Daegu. By utilizing our excellent leisure and sports infrastructure, Daegu and Hapcheon will continue to discover sustainable collaborative projects in various fields to enhance the image of Hapcheon as a wellness city.”

Meanwhile, the county and Nam-gu District Office of Daegu signed a business agreement in January to jointly respond to local extinction issues.
