"No Blind Spots in School Uniform Purchase Support... Changwon Special City to Accept Applications Starting June"

Support Provided for All New and First-Year Transfer Students at Alternative Education Institutions and Middle/High Schools in Other Cities

Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam will accept applications for the school uniform (daily wear) purchase support program for six months, from June to November this year.

"No Blind Spots in School Uniform Purchase Support... Changwon Special City to Accept Applications Starting June" Changwon Special City Hall.

The Gyeongsangnam-do school uniform purchase support program, according to the agreement of the 2023 Gyeongsangnam-do Educational Administration Council, has changed from 2024: the supporting body has shifted from local governments (30% provincial, 70% city funding) to the educational autonomous body (Gyeongnam Office of Education), and the eligibility has changed from new students with addresses in the province to new students enrolled in schools within the province.

As a result, 248 new students who had previously been eligible?those with addresses in Changwon but attending middle and high schools or alternative education institutions in other provinces?are now excluded from the 2024 Gyeongnam Office of Education school uniform purchase support program.

In response, Changwon City has allocated 74.4 million won from the city budget in the first supplementary budget to temporarily support the school uniform purchase cost for students excluded from this year's Gyeongnam Office of Education program.

Eligible applicants are new students and first-year transfer students who have entered middle or high schools or alternative education institutions (first-year course) in other provinces (Busan, North Gyeongsang, South Chungcheong). Each student will receive 300,000 won. The student must have an address in Changwon as of the admission date (March 4) for new students or as of the transfer date for transfer students.

Applications can be submitted at the local administrative welfare center in the student's or guardian's residential area, and non-face-to-face applications can be made by registered mail. Online applications will be accepted through the Gyeongnam Baro Service platform, which is available in all cities and counties of Gyeongnam.

Jung Hyunseop, Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau, stated, "We are providing school uniform purchase support to new students attending middle and high schools or alternative education institutions in other provinces to enhance equity in educational welfare," adding, "We will continue to strive to reduce the financial burden on parents and realize educational welfare with no blind spots."
