Increase from 'Recommendation to Refrain from Casting Invitations'
KBS will suspend the appearances of actor Oh Young-soo, who was indicted on charges of sexual assault and found guilty in the first trial. They are also considering restricting the appearances of singer Kim Ho-joong, who was arrested tomorrow on charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run.
KBS announced on the 28th that the Broadcast Appearance Restriction Review Committee upgraded the restriction on Oh from a "recommendation to refrain from casting" to a "suspension of appearances" as of the 13th.
Oh gained great popularity for his role as "Grandpa Kangbu" Oh Il-nam in the Netflix original series "Squid Game." He also became the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe Award in the U.S. (Best Supporting Actor in a TV category). However, he was indicted without detention in 2022 on charges of sexually assaulting a woman, Ms. A, while staying in a provincial area for a theater performance in 2017. He strongly denied the charges, but was found guilty in the first trial and sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year probation. Oh immediately filed an appeal.
KBS will hold the Broadcast Appearance Restriction Review Committee again on the 29th. The subject of review is Kim Ho-joong, who was arrested on the 24th. On the 9th, he caused an accident by hitting a taxi in the opposite lane on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and fled the scene. He later admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol.
