The National Police Agency recently released a video on its official YouTube channel titled "A touching true story, so warm. Reasons why the world is still worth living," featuring the story of an elderly man who visited the Gubong Precinct of the Daejeon Western Police Station.

The video shows an elderly man in his early 80s, walking unsteadily with a cane, saying, "I left my wallet and ID in a taxi," as he visits the precinct.

The police immediately began checking and discovered that the man's wallet had been turned in as lost property at another precinct about 3 km away. To assist the elderly man who had difficulty walking, the police drove him to that precinct in a police car to retrieve his wallet. They then gave him a ride home in the police car. After returning to the precinct, the officers found cash in the back seat of the police car. It turned out that the elderly man had left the money as a token of thanks to the police.

The police car’s internal CCTV captured the moment when the elderly man took something out of his pocket during the ride and placed it on the back seat. It was reported that the man, moved by the officers’ thoughtful care, took out all the cash from his wallet and left it behind before getting off.

The police immediately contacted the man to return the money, saying they could not accept it, but he firmly declined to take it back.

Sergeant Song Won-geun of the Gubong Precinct, Daejeon Western Police Station, said, "It was already a kind act that he found his wallet, but he was very grateful that we took him to another precinct despite being busy and then gave him a ride near his home, and he firmly refused to take the money back."

In the end, the police said, "The next evening, we visited the elderly man in person and politely returned the cash," adding, "His delicate heart is the greatest gift to us."

As this story became known, netizens responded with comments such as "A perfect ending," "I am moved by the warm-hearted police officers and the grandfather," "My heart warms every time I see videos like this in a harsh world," and "From the grandfather’s perspective, he must have been so grateful to the young police friends that he wanted them to enjoy something delicious."
