The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Commissioner Kim In-chang) announced on the 28th that it held a meeting of the 'External Expert Working Group' for chemical accident preparedness and response on the 27th in the West Sea Agency's main conference room.

The External Expert Working Group is composed of 18 external experts across six fields: △ accident response health and safety △ onboard situation prediction △ material information and characteristics △ fire suppression △ ship structure and salvage △ hazardous material containers and eco-friendly fuels. They provide field-specific advice on maritime chemical accident occurrences, education, and training.

This meeting was held to share domestic and international trends in eco-friendly shipbuilding due to the increase in operation of fuel-propelled ships such as LNG and methanol, and to discuss effective response measures at the site by reviewing the recent collision accident involving an LNG carrier off Wando.

An official from the Marine Pollution Prevention Division of the West Sea Coast Guard said, “As the operation of eco-friendly fuel-propelled ships accelerates, the risk of fire and explosion accidents is increasing. We will strengthen the use of expert advice and cooperation by field to establish practical response measures at the site.”
