Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 28th that it will hold a domestic academic conference on the 31st at the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the Hwasun Cultural Center to register the Unjusa Stone Buddha and Stone Pagoda Group as a World Heritage site.
This event is a project to identify the World Heritage value of the Unjusa Stone Buddha and Stone Pagoda Group, presenting the results of research conducted since last year and deriving the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) as a World Heritage site through a practical academic conference.
Since September 2023, the county has embarked on a comprehensive academic service to register Unjusa, known for the mystery of the Thousand Buddhas and Thousand Pagodas, as a World Heritage site. This academic conference is also part of the comprehensive academic service.
Through research presentations by domestic experts and lively discussions, various opinions will be collected and actively reflected in future World Heritage registration projects to ensure smooth project progress.
Anyone interested in Hwasun Unjusa is welcome to attend.
Meanwhile, the Hwasun Unjusa site is designated as a national heritage historic site, and under the name of the Hwasun Unjusa Stone Buddha and Stone Pagoda Group, it has been listed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2017.
