From now on, to have mail returned, the word "반환" (Return) must be marked on the front of the envelope.
The Jeonnam Regional Post Office announced on the 27th that it will improve and implement the return system for general ordinary prepaid and postpaid mail starting July 24.
According to the improvement of the return system, general ordinary mail with bulk prepaid or postpaid postage will not be returned. Customers who need a return can receive their mail back by writing the word "반환" (Return) in the middle left area on the front of the envelope. Customers who did not mark the return on the mail in advance can use the return stamp available at the post office counter to mark it.
However, mail that is not returned will be stored at the delivery post office for one month before being discarded, so customers who did not mark "반환" (Return) can still retrieve their mail during this period.
Until now, mail that could not be delivered due to unknown recipient or unknown address was uniformly returned to the sender. However, as the amount of mail not requiring return increased, the system was improved to eliminate administrative and social waste factors. According to the Jeonnam Regional Post Office, among 2.1 billion general ordinary mails last year, the proportion of returned mail was 3.1%, amounting to 64 million pieces annually.
