Songpa-gu X MUSEUM209 Public Art Project Launch
World-renowned Illustrator Federica Del Proposto's 'Running People' Exhibition Debuts Until August
Seogangseok, Songpa-gu Mayor: "Implementing Modern Urban Art in Daily Life... Towards a City Breathing Culture and Arts"
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will present the first public art project “Running People” special exhibition, promoted through public-private cooperation, at the Lakeside Walkway Exhibition Space “Lake Bridge Gallery” from May 27 to August.
The lower part of Jamsil Hosugyo Bridge, named “Lake Bridge Gallery,” is a 60-meter-long connecting passage under Songpa-daero that links the East and West Lakeside Walkways of Seokchon Lake. The district has prepared a public art project where local residents and visitors can experience new and fresh culture and arts in this bustling area.
This first special exhibition features Federica Del Proposto, a world-renowned Italian illustrator loved for her simple and clear lines, bright colors, and vivid storytelling. She established a connection with the district by holding her first solo exhibition in Asia at MUSEUM 209, with which the district signed a business agreement to create the Lake Bridge Gallery.
Notably, considering the spatial characteristics of the Lake Bridge Gallery, the artist directly participated in the exhibition planning. She created wall graphics of her favorite theme, the “Running People” series, depicting various residents enjoying walking and exercising at Seokchon Lake. Visitors can encounter life-sized illustrations of diverse people sequentially along the walkway.
Leading with this special exhibition, the district plans to continuously promote public art projects to transform “Songpa Avenue,” the core section of the “Songpa-daero Premium Street Development Project” from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market Intersection, into a desirable walking street. Additionally, various cultural contents linked to the street will be developed to utilize the area as an artistic experimental space full of enjoyable events.
Meanwhile, the district is also holding an event offering a 30% discount exclusively for residents to view the artist’s solo exhibition “Federica Del Proposto: Extra + Ordinary Journey (Subtitle: Federica’s Special Journey),” open until October 27 at nearby MUSEUM 209.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Starting with this public art project, we will develop the Lake Bridge Gallery into a modern urban art museum in daily life,” adding, “We will do our best to establish Seokchon Lake as an international tourist attraction by preparing innovative and sophisticated events and creating a city where culture and arts breathe.”
