Local Issues Should Be Solved Locally
Jeonnam-Type Regional Growth Strategy Project No. 1
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it held a completion ceremony for the Jeonnam-type regional growth strategic project No. 1, the stay-type hub space Gokseong Station 1928 creation project, attended by about 300 people including Lee Sang-cheol, Gokseong County Governor, Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, Kwon Hyang-yeop, elected member of the National Assembly, Yoon Young-gyu, chairman of the Gokseong County Council, and project promotion committee members.
The newly completed stay-type hub space Gokseong Station 1928 creation project is a large-scale regional development project independently planned and supported by Jeollanam-do through a bottom-up autonomous public contest method, departing from the existing top-down public contest method of central government ministries, to solve local needs directly by the region.
The stay-type hub space Gokseong Station 1928 creation project was the first Jeonnam-type regional growth strategic project selected in the first year of the contest in 2019. From 2020 to 2024, a budget of 13.6 billion KRW was invested to create a complex cultural space combining education, experience, residence, and community with a building area of 2,263㎡ (Studio 1928 with 1 building, Welcome Center with 2 buildings, and Creative Workshop with 1 building).
In the future, it is expected to establish itself as a hub space that provides a breakthrough to population decline amid the crisis of local extinction by inducing the influx of living population through operating programs such as Architecture School and Forest Play School linked with nearby Gokseong Seomjingang Train Village, Seomjingang Wetland, Donghwa Garden, and Rural New Vitality Plus Project.
Governor Lee Sang-cheol said, “I am very pleased that a stay-type cultural complex space containing the wishes of Gokseong residents has been born. We will strive to make Gokseong a place overflowing with living population through Gokseong Station 1928, and I would like to express my deep gratitude to Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeollanam-do, who spared no support from the contest project to completion.”
