Gwangju Buk-gu Council Holds the 56th Children and Youth Mock Assembly

On the 24th, the Buk-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it held a children and youth mock council providing an opportunity to experience democracy and local autonomy for 16 youths belonging to the 1st Ilgok Village Youth Council.

The children and youths attending the mock council toured the Buk-gu Council and then experienced the roles and functions of the local council by proceeding through the overall procedures of the plenary session, including ▲watching the Buk-gu Council promotional video ▲listening to reports on the progress of major tasks ▲3-minute free speeches.


During the 3-minute free speech session of the plenary meeting, through the “Suggestions for the Operation of the 1st Ilgok Village Youth Council,” it was emphasized that “As representatives of each school and youth representatives of Ilgok Village, we must do our best to raise the status of the Youth Council through exemplary behavior and lead the resolution of village problems and changes.”


Additionally, they took time to understand the roles and functions of the local council by deliberating and resolving agenda items such as the “Regulation to Solve Smoking Problems Inside and Outside School” and the “Regulation to Prevent Reckless Jaywalking.”


Chairman Kim Hyeong-su said, “I hope that today’s mock council experience will serve as an opportunity to experience the democratic decision-making process and to correctly recognize the local autonomy system,” and added, “The Buk-gu Council will always support youths to grow into mature democratic citizens who will lead the future.”
