"Legal Procedures Completed for Launch of Chungcheong Special Self-Governing Region with Ministry of Interior Approval"

The Chungcheong Region Special Local Government (Chungcheong Region Mega City) is expected to be launched this December.

Governor Kim Tae-heum stated at the department heads meeting on the 27th, "The legal procedures for the launch of the Chungcheong Region Special Local Government have recently been completed with the approval of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety," adding, "Since we are also negotiating government administrative and financial support, we plan to sign an agreement containing specific details soon."

Recently, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety approved the launch on the condition that the name of the Chungcheong Region Special Local Government, 'Chungcheong Local Government Union,' be changed. Accordingly, the four cities and provinces will discuss an alternative name in June and plan to submit it to the temporary sessions of each city and provincial council in September for re-approval.

The four cities and provinces?Daejeon City, Sejong City, Chungbuk Province, and Chungnam Province?have been promoting the establishment of the special local government since January last year. Once the Chungcheong Region Special Local Government is launched, it will discover joint projects and handle 21 joint administrative tasks, including the construction of a super-regional transportation network.

Governor Kim said, "We will work closely with Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungbuk to quickly complete practical procedures such as delegation of tasks and organizational setup to ensure there are no setbacks for the December launch."
