'Kolon Gonggam' Continuing for 11 Years Wins Germany's 'iF Design Award'

This Year's Management Message is 'E=MC²'

Kolon Group announced on the 27th that it has finalized 'E=MC²,' a reinterpretation of the theory of relativity formula, as the keyword for this year's group management message called 'Kolon Gonggam.'

Since 2013, Kolon Group has announced Kolon Gonggam as its unique corporate culture message at the beginning of each year for 11 years. After conducting it for a long time, the group judged that the message and spirit had weakened due to being overly formalized, so this year, the announcement was postponed to undergo a preparation period to strengthen its substance.


The keyword announced ahead of the second half of the year reinterprets the theory of relativity formula that energy (E) equals mass (m) times the speed of light (c) squared. It explains that to overcome the increasingly rapid external environment, explosive success energy is necessary, and that 'the energy of success (E) is possible when the core competencies of employees (Manpower) are united and demonstrated.'


The design of the badge and bracelet embodying the message applies 'Ulla,' the Ulleungdo gorilla character directly created by Kolon in 2017. Rather than blindly chasing new images, Ulla was chosen as Kolon's unique character that fits the meaning of this year's keyword through a process of reflecting on the group's inherent capabilities.


Kolon decided to emphasize sincere reflection and practice by actively conducting campaigns throughout the year via internal communication channels to ensure Kolon Gonggam does not remain merely a formality, and by discovering and introducing excellent practice cases at the individual employee, team, and headquarters levels.


Honorary Chairman Lee Woong-yeol of Kolon started Kolon Gonggam in 2012 by presenting 'The Reason for Inevitable Success' as a management theme and engraving the management message on badges and bracelets worn by employees from the following year.


Kolon's unique message dissemination activities were also recognized externally earlier this year when they received the Grand Prize in the Communication category from Germany's 'iF Design Award,' one of the world's top three design awards. The iF jury evaluated, "Kolon effectively instills common goals among domestic and international employees every year through a witty design approach that reflects the latest corporate values."
