On the 25th (local time), The New York Times (NYT) reported, citing multiple Iranian officials and witnesses, that after the helicopter crash on the 19th in bad weather, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were found together, but due to the fire, their forms were difficult to recognize.

President Raisi died along with other passengers when the helicopter he boarded crashed in a mountainous area after attending a dam completion ceremony in the Varzeghan region of East Azerbaijan Province. Iranian authorities launched a large-scale search operation using rescue teams and drones and found President Raisi near the helicopter wreckage after 17 hours.

Authorities reportedly confirmed President Raisi’s identity by his ring and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian’s identity by the watch he was wearing.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff stated in the first investigation report released on the 23rd that no suspicious traces such as bullets were found on the crashed helicopter.

The General Staff added that the accident helicopter was flying on the scheduled route before the crash and confirmed that there was no deviation from the route until the crash.
