Chosun University Selected as SW-Centered University... Cultivating AI and SW Specialized Talent

Chosun University announced that it has been finally selected for the 2024 SW-Centered University Project, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute for Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation.

Chosun University Selected as SW-Centered University... Cultivating AI and SW Specialized Talent

The SW-Centered University Project is a program that supports universities leading the spread of software value by enhancing the competitiveness of the nation, companies, and students through innovation in software (SW) education.

Chosun University was selected under the general track and will receive a total project budget of 13.2 billion KRW for up to six years.

Following its initial selection in 2017 as the first in the Honam region, Chosun University has been reselected this year. Notably, it is the only university selected in the Honam-Jeju area for this project, and it is expected to rise as a regional leading university cultivating AI and SW specialized talents driving digital innovation.

Based on the achievements of the past six years, Chosun University plans to further innovate its academic structure and system to actively respond to environmental changes and swiftly reflect external demands. It aims to grow into an institution that nurtures AI and SW professionals capable of leading regional strategic industries to a global level.

To this end, the university will carry out the project with strategies including ▲establishing a sustainable AI and SW education ecosystem ▲implementing a timely education model led by industry ▲promoting boundaryless AI and SW convergence education ▲training AI and SW professionals throughout the entire lifecycle ▲and expanding AI and SW utilization in the local community.

The newly selected Chosun University SW-Centered University project involves three SW departments (Department of Computer Engineering, Department of Information and Communication Engineering - Information Security Major, Department of Artificial Intelligence Engineering) and 28 non-SW departments (including the Department of Electronic Engineering and 27 other departments). It provides high-quality SW education in areas such as artificial intelligence, software, digital twin, IoT, and big data not only to SW major students but also to non-major students within the university. Furthermore, efforts will be made to disseminate AI, SW, and digital literacy education to local elementary, middle, and high school students as well as the general public.

Kim Chun-sung, President of Chosun University, stated, "We will strive to spread the value of software in the local community, drive innovation, establish a win-win cooperation system between the region and the university, and nurture high-level software talents."

Byun Jae-young, Dean of the College of IT Convergence and the project’s overall director, said, "We are pleased to be selected again following 2017. We will nurture local SW talents to increase regional settlement personnel and work to popularize AI and SW so that anyone can easily approach them."
