On the 25th (local time), the US news outlet Newsweek cited the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, reporting that the total number of Russian military casualties counted by Ukraine reached 500,080 as of the 24th.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has reported that Russian forces have intensified offensives on major fronts, including launching ground battles in northeastern Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast, leading to a sharp increase in casualties. It is estimated that for 12 consecutive days until the previous day, daily casualties exceeded 1,000. On the 12th of this month, Russian military casualties reached 1,740 in a single day, marking the highest daily figure.

Russia has not disclosed casualty figures. The last announcement was in September 2022, when it stated that 5,937 of its soldiers had died.

Experts point out that parties involved in the war may exaggerate the opponent's losses while minimizing their own.

However, the casualty figures for Russian forces compiled by Ukraine are similar to estimates from Western allies. French Foreign Minister St?phane S?journ? estimated Russian military casualties at 500,000, including 150,000 deaths, while the UK estimated over 450,000 Russian casualties and tens of thousands of deserters. In December last year, US intelligence reported Russian troop losses at 315,000, which was not significantly different from Ukraine's count of 340,650 Russian casualties at that time.

Russia's anti-government independent media outlet Mediazona, based on publicly available records, has counted 54,185 Russian military deaths as of the 25th. It is estimated that the actual number of deaths is much higher.
