Discussion on Safe Data Utilization Measures

Ko Hak-soo, Chairman of the Personal Information Protection Commission, will attend a United Nations meeting for two days and meet with IT companies entering Singapore and government officials to discuss the direction of artificial intelligence (AI) policy.
Chairman Ko will attend the 3rd in-person meeting of the 'UN AI High-Level Advisory Body' held in Singapore from the 28th to the 29th.
At this meeting, concrete recommendations regarding the functions, institutional forms, and deadlines necessary for establishing international AI governance will be derived, and a draft of the final report reflecting these will be prepared.
The draft of the final report is expected to be finalized by the end of next month after circulation among the entire advisory body. This will be submitted to UN Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres at the UN 'Summit for the Future' to be held in September.
On the 28th, Chairman Ko will hold a business meeting to share key policy directions related to AI and data and listen to suggestions. Discussions will focus on the overseas transfer of personal information and safe data utilization methods for AI development and services. LG CNS, Samsung SDS, NHN KCP, Hana Bank, and KOTRA will participate.
On the 29th, he will visit the Singapore Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) to share major policy trends such as 'Korea-Singapore Personal Information Legislative Amendment Trends' and 'AI Privacy Policy Directions' and explore cooperation and collaboration measures.
Chairman Ko said, "There is high international interest in the universality and representativeness of the UN's final report on AI regulation and the level of its binding force," adding, "I will lead discussions in a direction that aligns the final report's direction with our national interests."
